We love rice! Always have. It’s a staple in our diets and is an integral part of many food cultures. It’s a dish that is enjoyed in millions of homes all over the world and it reminds us not only of home, but of family and friends as well. Sharing a meal together allows us to reconnect and take the time to enjoy life. Rice is so much more than just food.
It all started in 2011 in New Zealand when researchers at the University of Otago published a paper about the effects of adding pulses, nuts and seeds to plain rice. The research showed that a rice blend could lower the glycemic load significantly, thereby making this mix of rice safer to eat. It’s a clever way to reduce the GI by using all natural alternatives to the rice. Fast forward through 5 years of trials, development and tasting, and Rice With Love was born.
However, plain white rice tends to have a high Glycemic Index (G.I.), meaning that when eaten, it can cause your blood glucose levels to rise rapidly. And that’s not good. That rapid rise in blood sugar after a meal can cause weight issues, heart disease, or even lead to diabetes. For people already struggling with their diet, this could be an issue. We wanted to do something about it.
